Welcome to my very first foray into the world of Eportfolios, or any type of portfolios for that matter.  I have never had to gather my work together and present it to hundreds of strangers, so you will all have to bare with me and promise to be nice when going through my portfolio!  When it comes to a specific audience, I cannot classify my page as exclusively personal or professional.  Instead, my goal was to create a vaster portfolio with various styles of writing.  I wanted to show that I am not restrained to one type of writing, but I have range.  Admittedly, I still have much to learn as a writer, so not every distinct piece is perfect.  I believe, however, that this is important for such a portfolio because it shows readers how I have grown as a writer.  These pieces include professional writing, personal writing, and argumentative writing.  My writing is broken down by the year in which it was written, so that readers can compare my work through the years and analyze my growth more easily.

My different pieces can be accessed by using the drop-down menus on the top bar, or by clicking a section on that same bar and clicking on the title of a piece or its respective photograph.  Feel free to access any piece in whichever way you prefer, but I encourage you to take a look at some of the photos and, more importantly, to read the reflective descriptions found under these photos, as they will shed some light on why I chose to include them in my portfolio, as well as provide some contextual language on each piece.

Lastly, before you begin exploring my work, I would just like to address the quotation included in the slideshow at the top of this page.  I have seen many different quotations on many different Eportfolios before adding one to my own.  Originally, I thought adding a quote was rather cliché, and acted more as space filler than it did to serve any actual purpose.  While all that is probably true, I came across this Ernest Hemingway quote a little while ago, and it just stuck with me.  I’m not really sure how to explain it without bluntly saying, “I just got it.”  The way I see it, as a writer you sit down at the (more modern) keyboard, and you let out your feelings and emotions.  Even if the writing isn’t personal, it still comes from inside you, and is oftentimes just as important.  Basically, I see it as leaving it all on the page.  I’m sorry to make this sound even more cliché, but that includes blood sweat and tears.  That’s what writing is.  That’s what I think, at least.  Maybe I’m totally wrong and maybe I’m just trying to fill up some space.  Either way, that’s how I feel about that!

What do you think?

Welcome!
